Preparing for your lactation home visit

I’m so excited to meet you and your family! In order for us to maximize our time together, please read this short list of steps to best prepare.

  1. Baby should be ready to feed shortly after my arrival. It can be tricky to time feedings with newborns, but a baby who is overly hungry OR has just eaten won’t be cooperative with latching.
  2. Please have all of your pump parts clean and ready. Set your pump up in the space where we’ll be working together.
  3. If you are exclusively pumping or baby is not latching, pump about 2-3 hours before our visit.
  4. Don’t clean for me! You’re doing enough work to care for your baby. My house gets messy too.
  5. Consider keeping pets in another room. I’m a dog-lover/owner so don’t mind the friendly ones, but if you think yours may be aggressive to a stranger, consider crating them in another part of your home. I have a cat allergy, but I’m usually fine if I don’t pet them :).
  6. Keep a count of feedings, pumping, and wet/poop diapers for the past 24 hours.
  7. Get your questions ready. I’m happy to answer anything and everything. Consider making a short list on your phone or a notepad.

If you have questions before our visit, you are always welcome to email me.

Warmly,
Ally
